bidding from Iowa on a repo class C: the wire, and who titles it

not a lot, gail, these are the right three questions and i would rather answer them here where the next person can find them. i have not bought through the outfit in karnes city myself, so i will let the two who have take the wire question. what i can tell you is what is on their site and what the two reports here bear out: they are the broker, the seller is the bank that repossessed the unit, every bidder gets ID verified before they can bid, and the bidding is done online, sealed, from wherever you are. nobody needs to see you. the ID check is a copy of your license and a form, from what the two buyers here have said.

there is no showroom. the coach sits at the lender's yard in San Antonio until it sells. if you want someone to put eyes on it before you bid, ask them for the yard contact and hire a mobile inspector in San Antonio. that is a couple hundred dollars and worth it on a first rig.

the wire. here is exactly what i did and you should do the same with anybody, them included. they emailed the wiring instructions after they called to say we won. i did not use the phone number in the email. i went to paceacemotors.net, got the number off the website, called it, and read the account number and the bank name back to the person who answered. she confirmed it. then i had our credit union send it. the whole worry with the house closing scams is somebody spoofing the email, and calling the number from the site instead of the email takes that away. it cost me a five minute phone call.

the title. you will not get a Texas title and you do not want one. you are an Iowa resident, so the coach gets titled and registered in Iowa, same as if you drove to Texas and bought it from a dealer. the paperwork from Pace Ace Motors is a Texas title signed over by the lender with the lien released, plus a bill of sale and the release letter. you take that to your county treasurer in Iowa. you can pick the coach up in Karnes City in december on your way down and mail the packet home, or have somebody in Cedar Rapids walk it in. that is what we did, more or less, except Minnesota.

Iowa specifics since we are both here. Linn County treasurer for you, Polk for us. you bring the assigned Texas title, the bill of sale, your license and a check. they collect the 5 percent one time registration fee on the purchase price and the annual registration, which on a motorhome is based on the list price and weight and drops as it ages. ours on a 2008 is about 200 a year now, yours will be more. you do not need a Texas anything. if the title is mailed to you rather than handed to you, it needs to be the original, they will not take a copy. and if you are already in Texas when it arrives, the treasurer's office will do it by mail with a form. i have done that from Pharr.

from the park side, nobody at check in cares where it is titled. we want to see your plate, your insurance card, the length of the rig and whether you have a dog. a 22HE is 24 feet and change, which means you fit anywhere, including the older parks with the 30 amp sites the big rigs skip, so you will have more choices than most first winters. come in with Iowa plates and an Iowa title and you are the same as everybody else on the street.
